Annual Meeting

January 20, 2023

8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Check-In will be open at 8:00 am

The Annual Meeting is an event that is organized by the Vermont Association of Behavior Analysis board members in January of each year. The board invites guest speakers to present on topics and provide trainings related to behavior analysis for two sessions for a total of six hours. In between the two sessions, the board hosts the Annual Meeting and encourages VtABA members to participate. The Annual Meeting is a chance for the board to update its members on the work that has been done in the previous year including a financial update, events, and future goals for the board.

Who will be the Guest Speaker for 2023?

This year, we are excited to welcome Dr. Justin Garwood to present at VtABA's 18th Annual Meeting. Dr. Garwood is an associate professor at the University of Vermont in the Department of Education.

Justin D. Garwood

Dr. Garwood's research and teaching focuses on students with and at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) across three specific areas: (1) pre-service preparation and teachers use of relationship-based pedagogy, (2) academic interventions, and (3) classroom management. Dr. Garwood serves on the editorial board of Behavioral Disorders and the Journal of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. He is a licensed teacher in English Education 7-12 and Special Education K-12.

Dr. Garwood's research is currently (2020-2024) funded by the U.S. Department of Education – Institute of Education Sciences at $500,000. He is Principal Investigator for Project Burn and Turn, an exploratory project examining malleable factors related to special education teacher burnout.

Dr. Garwood's most recent book, Reclaim Your Challenging Classroom: Relationship-based Behavior Management, was published in 2021 by Corwin Press. In addition, he has published over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles in the field of special education.

How many CE's will be offered?

This year, we will offer six general continuing education credits for all of those who attend. We will be using CE Helper again this year. Please make sure to download the app ahead of time! Certificates of completion will be sent out within 45 days of the conference.

Where will the Annual Meeting take place?

We are fortunate to be able to offer this as an in-person event this year at the Main Street Landing in Burlington, VT!
